Azerbaijan, Georgia eye to finish border delimitation process

Delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Georgian border is expected to be completed in 2015, according to Khalaf Khalafov, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister.
Khalafov said the State Commission for Delimitation of State Borders will finish the coordination of the sections on the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia in 2015.
“Nearly one third length of the entire border must be coordinated,” he said.
Khalafov added that demarcation of the Azerbaijani-Russian border is still underway, noting that several meetings on the issue were held with the Russian side and normative documents were adopted.
“For now, the sides will work on demarcation process, namely, on the establishment of the border signs and several other issues,” he said. “This is a long process and may take several years.”
Khalafov also announced about the postponement of the meeting of the Working Group of the Caspian Sea Countries, scheduled for December.
“The sides must agree on new date for the meeting,” he said.
In November 2003, the Caspian coastal states - Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran - signed the framework convention for the protection of the Caspian sea's marine environment.
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan inked agreements and protocol on the delimitation of the Caspian Sea respectively on November 29, 2001 and February 27, 2003.
An additional agreement on delimitation of the adjacent sections of the Caspian Sea was signed by Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia on May 14, 2003.
