Detentions following Turkish coup attempt expected to exceed 6,000

So far 6,000 people have been detained in Turkey in relation to a failed coup, with more detentions expected, broadcaster NTV said on Sunday, citing Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag. "The judicial process on this will continue," NTV reported Bozdag as saying.

Turkish leadership informed about a military coup attempt in the country July 15 in the evening. The servicemen, for their part, announced about seizing the power. The rebelling servicemen started to surrender July 16 in the morning. Turkish authorities said that the coup attempt has failed.

As many as 161 people were killed as a result of the coup attempt, according to the latest reports.
