Georgia, Israel to intensify bilateral relations

Israeli President Shimon Peres and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili voiced their readiness to strengthen and intensify the Georgian-Israeli bilateral relations.

At a meeting in Tel Aviv on January 28, the parties discussed the status of bilateral relations and stated they have opportunities and prerequisites for the progress, the prime minister's press service reported.

The Israeli president expressed satisfaction with the start of the Georgian-Israeli intergovernmental commission's work which will contribute to the strengthening of relations between Georgia and Israel.

During the visit, Garibashvili also met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Before the meeting he pointed out that the dialogue with the Prime Minister will highlight important issues of mutual relationship, as well as topics concerning regional and international security.

"Today, the first session of the Joint Economical Commission was held. The sides signed two documents: Collaboration Memorandum and the minutes of the Commission Session outcomes. The goal of the Commission is to support trade and economic cooperation between our countries. We attach particular importance to the negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and Israel," Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili and Netanyahu discussed recently launched cooperation between the countries in all directions. They emphasized the importance of the Joint Economic Commission between Georgia and Israel.
