Iranian president to attend Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is slated to attend an upcoming meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Russia next month, Fars news agency reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is to meet with the Iranian president during the summit of GECF leaders, which is due to be held in Moscow on July 1-2, Kremlin's top foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters.
The Kremlin official also pointed out that the first day of the GECF summit would be devoted to leaders' meeting and bilateral discussions will be held among experts of member states on the second day of the event.
GECF is an intergovernmental organization of the world's leading
natural gas producers comprising Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt,
Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad
and Tobago and Venezuela.
The first GECF summit meeting was held in the Qatari capital of
Doha on November 15, 2011.
Iran, which sits on the world's largest natural gas reserves, is
striving to up its gas production by increasing foreign and
domestic investments, specially in South Pars gas field.
