Kazakh SCAT airline launches first flight to Europe

By Trend

Kazakhstan’s SCAT airline made its first flight to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius, which, at the same time, is the company's first flight to a EU country, Kazakh media outlets reported.

The company’s flights to the EU became possible due to authorization as a third country operator (TCO) by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2017.

SCAT became the second Kazakh airline, receiving admission for flights to the European Union, after Air Astana. The company will launch flights between Astana and Vilnius twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, on Boeing 737 aircraft.

The airline plans to launch 14 new routes, including Astana-Milan, Astana-Vienna and Astana-Prague.

In 2015, the carrier was included in the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) register, and in March 2018 it was accepted as a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

SCAT uses mainly Boeing aircraft, including Boeing 767-300, Boeing 757-200, B-737CL and B-737NG.

The airline's fleet also includes Bombradier's CRJ200 aircraft.
