Military unit attacked in Turkey, 9 killed

A military unit came under attack in Turkey’s Agri province, Milliyet newspaper reported on September 16.
Nine Turkish servicemen were killed as a result of the incident.
Reportedly, the attack was committed by militants of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group.
Large-scale anti-PKK operations have been launched in the province following the attack, said the newspaper.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the
creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 33
years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist
organization.
