Prime Minister of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan had a farewell meeting with the members of the Cabinet of Ministers, Interfax reports citing a source in the government of Armenia.

“The Prime Minister met with the Ministers and said goodbye. It is expected that the resignation of Hovik Abrahamyan will officially be announced after a meeting of the Executive body and Board of the Republican party. Karen Karapetian (former mayor of Yerevan) will be appointed the Prime Minister,” the source said.

He added that the resignation of Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian is also expected.

“It is likely that Vigen Sargsyan, Chief of the Office of Armenian President, will be appointed to this position”, the interlocutor noted.

According to the source, Abrahamyan will head the election headquarters of the Republican party of Armenia at the 2017 parliamentary elections. He was appointed to the position of Prime Minister on April 13, 2014. Previously Abrahamyan was the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia.
