Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia  eye bilateral ties

Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov and his Saudi Arabian counterpart Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir held negotiations, where the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported on July 28.

The sides also exchanged views on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the OIC (the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) Foreign Ministers Council, which is to take place in Tashkent in October 2016.

Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir praised Uzbekistan’s vision and approaches with regard to the country’s priorities within its chairmanship in the OIC Foreign Ministers Council that are united in the slogan “Education and enlightenment – path towards peace and creativity.”

The two foreign ministers noted the two sides’ interest in progressive development of bilateral cooperation in various spheres and successful holding of the upcoming 43rd session of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council in Tashkent.

The Uzbek minister also participated in a meeting of senior officials of the OIC member countries, where the preparation for the upcoming OIC meeting in October in Tashkent was discussed.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation was established in September of 1969 to ensure Islamic solidarity in social, economic and political spheres. The organization has 57 member states.
