The U.S. Department of State's country reports on terrorism 2013 notes Azerbaijan continued to strengthen its counterterrorism efforts.

"Azerbaijan maintained its strong counterterrorism cooperation with the United States and actively opposed terrorist organizations seeking to move people, money, and material through the Caucasus," the report said.

The report highlights that the country confiscated sizeable quantities of illegal arms and munitions.

The report also assessed the counterterrorism activities of Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry and Interior Ministry.

"Azerbaijan is a member of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering Measures and the Financing of Terrorism (Moneyval), a Financial Action Task Force (FATF)-style regional body. Azerbaijan has increased its professionalism in anti-money laundering/countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) since 2009, when it adopted AML/CFT legislation. The country continued to implement Moneyval recommendations to address AML/CFT issues," the report said.

Since Azerbaijan's emergence as an independent nation in 1991, the U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership based on mutual interests and common values.

At present, Azerbaijan-U.S. relations are developing rapidly.
