GUAM head visits the U.S.

Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM made a working visit to the United States.

The visit included a meeting of the Secretary General of GUAM with Daniel Russell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Daniel Rosenblum, Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Eastern Europe and Asia, Brian Nichols, principal deputy assistant secretary for the State Department's Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and George Kent, Director of the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement in Europe and Asia.

The sides exchanged views on the current US-GUAM cooperation, implementation of joint programs and projects, underlined mutual interest in continuing and enhancing cooperation with the experience already gained in the implementation of the Framework Program of cooperation between GUAM - USA.

Chechelashvili provided information on the activities of the working bodies of GUAM and the development of new projects, which will be considered by the sides and, in the case of mutual interest, be realized in the framework of GUAM - USA.

The sides agreed to continue consultations and stressed the importance of GUAM - U.S. dialogue during the regular meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers of GUAM.

During the working visit to the U.S. Valery Chechelashvili held a presentation on the activities of GUAM at the Woodrow Wilson International Centre's Kennan Institute.
In his presentation, he focused on the stages of development of the organization, its goals and objectives, its positioning in the international system, the core areas of cooperation within GUAM, answered questions from the audience.
