Azerbaijani acrobats win five medals at Volkov Cup in Russia

Azerbaijani acrobats gained five medals including four silver and one bronze at the Volkov Cup international tournament in acrobatic gymnastics, held in Russian Oktyabrskii city on May 4-6, Azerbaijan's Gymnastics Federation said on May 8.
During the three-day competition, acrobats showed a high level of skill and endurance. This year, about 200 representatives from the acrobatics world participated in the event including World and Europe champions, winners of the World Cup, winners of European Championship from Azerbaijan, as well from Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus and Russia.
Mixed couple of Anatoly Leonov and Victoria Pervova won the first medal of the national team. Being newcomers of the team, they became fourth at the World Cup in Germany a week ago. This time they were able to climb on the second place of the podium giving way to the hosts of the tournament.
Women's group of Aynur Huseynova, Narmin Ramazanova and Lala Huseynova, also gained silver medal after making small mistakes in the final performance.
Country's Elchin Alibeyov and Emin Gulmammadli also won silver medal, as well as the couple of Aygun Ahmadova and Ruhidil Gurbanli became second, successfully performing at the international tournament.
"And only combined couple of Agasif Rahimov - Nurjan Jabbarly faltered in the final at the crucial moment," Head Coach of the national team Irada Gurbanova said. "The bronze medal is also a medal, and many of my colleagues especially paid attention to the acrobatic style, performed by Nurjan."
Azerbaijani acrobats will also participate in the World Cup in France in early July.
Moreover, different countries are participating in the Borovets Cup Aerobics Open in Bulgaria, which will run until May 11. Timur Alakbarov, Anastasia Koltunova, Ekaterina Kotljarova, Anna Polishchuk, Vera Bosykh and Vladimir Dolmatov will perform in four types of programs.
Coach Nigar Abdusalimova attended courses in Austria and has a 4th category of the international degree. She is among the judges of this competition.
