Kazakh banks see drop in profit

Kazakh banks in January-August 2015 received profit by 35 percent (70.1 billion tenge) less than the same period in 2014 (after deduction of profit/loss of BTA, Alliance Bank and Temir Bank), the Ranking.kz analytical service Oct.27 said.

In the reporting period, the total profit of Kazakh banks amounted to 127.6 billion tenge (278.5 tenge = $1).

Excluding the loss of Kazkom (Kazkommertsbank), after the acquisition of the BTA (after deduction of $58.8 billion), the total profit of the Kazakh second-tier commercial banks has decreased by 6 percent.

Some 33 banks out of 35 banks received the profit (all except Kazkom and VTB Kazakhstan). At the same time, the profit level increased in 22 banks (by January-August 2014) and fell in 13 of them.

Top 5 banks in terms of profits earned 126.2 billion tenge from the beginning of the year. However, only two of the top 5 banks showed profit growth over the same period in 2014.

Halyk bank takes the first place in terms of profits for January-August 2015. The bank's profit in the reporting period amounted to 69.5 billion tenge compared with 78.4 billion in the same period in 2014.

The second place belongs to Citibank with 18 billion tenge profit compared to 8.3 billion tenge in January-August.

The third, fourth and fifth place in terms of profit in the reporting period belong to Kaspi bank, TSB and Zhilstroyberbank, respectively.

Kaspi bank in January-August received a profit of 16.1 billion tenge compared with 16.6 billion tenge in the same period of 2014.

TSB received 12 billion tenge, compared to 12.3 billion tenge in the same period in 2014.

Zhilstroysberbank increased its profit to 10.6 billion tenge compared to 6.9 billion tenge in January-August 2014.
