Georgian Parliament passes amended Labour Code
The Parliament of Georgia has adopted amendments to the Labour Code of Georgia in the third and final reading. 91 members of the Parliament voted for the amendments, and 26 against.
According to the head of the Health Committee Dmitry Khundadze, before the introduction of the amendments, the Labour Code allowed for the dismissal of employees without explanation.
"In the new edition of the Code we clearly detailed for which reasons an employee may be dismissed," he said.
The amendments require the signing of an open-ended contract with an employed citizen, if he or she has worked for over 30 months. They also introduced regulations for compensation for dismissing from work.
Amendments to the Labour Code will enter into force after their publication.
The decision of the Parliament did not satisfy the head of the Joint Trade Union of Georgia Irakli Petriashvili. He believes that the first version of the Labour Code was more focused on an employed citizen.
