Five Turkish servicemen were wounded in a shootout between the Turkish military and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the country’s south-eastern Hakkari province, the Turkish TRT Haber TV channel reported on August 31.

According to the TV channel, two PKK militants were killed in the shootout.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
