Baku checks presence of Azerbaijanis among Istanbul blast victims
Azerbaijan's Consulate General in Istanbul is reviewing through the Turkish state agencies whether there are any Azerbaijani citizens among those injured and killed in the terrorist attack committed in Istanbul on June 7, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry reported.
"The Foreign Ministry strongly condemns the bloody terrorist attack committed in Istanbul on June 7 and extends its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims and the fraternal Turkish people, and wishes speedy recovery to those injured," the ministry stated.
"As a country suffering from terrorism, Azerbaijan strongly condemns all the forms of terrorism, and supports international community's efforts to fight it," added the Foreign Ministry.
An explosion hit Istanbul's Beyazıt district at the Vezneciler metro station as a riot police shuttle bus was passing on Tuesday morning.
Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin said that seven police officers and four civilians were killed in what appears to be a car bombing terror attack. Şahin added that 36 others were also injured in the blast, including three in critical condition.
