Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Jordan attends event commemorating Çanakkale victims
Azerbaijani ambassador to Jordan Sabir Agabayov has participated in an event commemorating Çanakkale battle victims.
Organized by the Turkish embassy in Amman, the event was held at the Turkish Cemetery in Salt.
More than 300 Turkish soldiers, who fell during battles against the British in World War I, are buried at the cemetery in Salt, in a mass grave first unveiled in 1973.
The ceremony brought together ambassadors of Pakistan, Australia, Kazakhstan, as well as military attachés of the diplomatic corps in Jordan, representatives of the Turkish and Jordanian communities.
Afterwards, a memorial and museum were constructed on the site. In 2009, the museum next to the cemetery was opened by Turkish President Abdullah Gul during his official visit to Jordan. The museum includes pictures, artifacts and documents from the late Ottoman era.
