U.S. interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan on human rights - official
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met the delegation led by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Thomas Melia, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday, Trend news agency reported.
The sides exchanged views on issues of human rights and freedom of speech and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in these areas.
Mammadyarov spoke about reforms carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of democracy, human rights and freedom of speech, as well as about achieved success.
The minister also spoke about the high level of Internet freedom in Azerbaijan.
Melia said the U.S. is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in these areas and he noted the importance of further work in this direction.
Mammadyarov briefed the US officials about the final stage of negotiations on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and stressed that Yerevan evades negotiations under various pretexts.
