Frankfurt-Baku flights suspended over Lufthansa strike

German aitline Lufthansa’s flights to a number of countries,
including Azerbaijan, have been suspended due to a strike involving
about 400 pilots who face the threat of losing their jobs. Thus,
the flights from Frankfurt to Baku will not be carried out on
Wednesday, a source at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport of
Baku said.
The flights between the Azerbaijani capital and the German city have been administered so far on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Monday, February 22, a flight was carried out from Baku to Frankfurt.
According to the Lufthansa Baku office, those who booked flights for Wednesday may return their tickets and travel using other airlines. The flights are expected to be resumed this Friday.
Lufthansa’s trade union has opposed the company’s plans to cut staff among local pilots over the crisis and instead hire foreign employees who would work for lower wages, demanding assurances that jobs be maintained and calling for pay raises.
Lufthansa is expected to suspend 3,200 flights due to the four-day strike, which is likely to translate into a loss amounting to 100 million euros. The four-day suspension is the biggest labor disruption in the airline's history, DPA reported.*
