Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has said that there must be no place for the glorification of fascism in the CIS, the Foreign Ministry has reported on its website.

He made the remarks at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS countries in Moscow.

Bayramov stressed Azerbaijan's great contribution to the victory over fascism, emphasizing the decision on the draft address of CIS leaders to the peoples of the CIS and the world community on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

"It was noted that the adoption of this decision is of great importance in the fight against the ideology of Nazism and its various forms of propaganda, it was noted with regret that today Nazism is being promoted in the CIS, and in particular, a monument to fascist Garegin Nzhdeh is erected in the centre of the Armenian capital. The Minister stressed that the heroization of fascism should have no place in the CIS," the ministry said.

The minister further stressed that as a result of the Azerbaijani army's successful counter-offensive operation, the country's occupied territories were liberated and its territorial integrity was restored. The efforts of the Russian Federation and, in particular, President Vladimir Putin's active mediation in the adoption of the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020, were praised, the report added.

Highly appreciating the activities of the Joint Russian-Turkish Monitoring Centre, the minister noted with satisfaction that a new format has been created to strengthen the regional security and cooperation.

He drew the attention of the participants to the terrible destruction and vandalism that all cities and settlements were subjected to during the occupation, the deliberate looting of religious and cultural monuments, the conversion of mosques into pig pens. It was noted that the reconstruction and restoration of these areas is underway.

Bayramov also highly assessed the agreements reached within the framework of the trilateral statements and said that the opening of communications would benefit the entire region and open up new prospects for regional cooperation.

He stressed that Azerbaijan is fully committed to its obligations and under the trilateral statement, returned all prisoners of war to Armenia.

Bayramov said that Armenia's actions contradict the norms of international law and the trilateral statement and stressed the attempts of Armenian military personnel to illegally enter the Azerbaijani territory. He also noted that Yerevan has not yet provided Baku with information about mines planted in Azerbaijan's liberated lands.

In conclusion, the minister expressed hope for the support of the international community and, in particular, our closest partners from the CIS member states in matters of mine clearance and restoration of the liberated territories, creating appropriate conditions for peaceful coexistence in these territories, the ministry said.

He noted that the continuation of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere will further contribute to the strengthening of interstate relations and the development of the Commonwealth.

A Moscow-brokered ceasefire deal (trilateral statement) that Baku and Yerevan signed on November 10 brought an end to six weeks of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani army declared a victory against the Armenian troops. The signed agreement obliged Armenia to withdraw its troops from the Azerbaijani lands that it has occupied since the early 1990s.
