Aesthetic surgery booming in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan captivates visitors with its richness and one of the reasons is the beauty of Azerbaijani women. The Land of Fire was always famous for the beauty of its women throughout history, and this beauty is quite diverse, as the country is home to many nations.

Despite being naturally beautiful, Azerbaijani women, following modern worldwide trends, now tend to undergo plastic surgery.

Still, Azerbaijanis are not on the list of top users by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which recently published statistics on the most plastic surgery-prone countries. The U.S. takes first place on the list, followed by Brazil and Japan.

However, this trend in Azerbaijan may put the country on the list of the top 50 countries in the future. Over the past few years, the number of plastic surgeries in Azerbaijan has increased dramatically.

While there is no statistic on these operations, the increase of the clinics offering cosmetic operations are growing and it is obvious that demand begets supply.

A well-known plastic surgeon in Azerbaijan, Professor Tofig Aliyev, confirms this fact to local press.

“Considering the fact that there are over 200 countries in the world, and each one of them differs with the levels of culture and economic opportunities, then, of course, demand for such operations will be different. You cannot compare Italy, France, and, for example, with Kyrgyzstan,” stressed the surgeon.

The expert allegedly put Azerbaijan in the top 50. “I think we would have entered the top 50 countries with the highest appeal to plastic surgery.”

In the region, Azerbaijan could even top the list and in the CIS, it could very well be in the top 5, according to him.

Russia undeniably takes first place, he believes, where patients differ as well in that they are able to afford costly operations.

Speaking about the situation in Azerbaijan, Tofik Aliyev noted a “factor of obtrusive offer.” He said that there are many clinics that just do not meet any professional standards.

“They employ people who are not able to provide the quality that they should offer their patients,” he noted.

The most popular types of plastic surgery in Azerbaijan are rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and face-lifting, according to the surgeon.

All these types are mostly popular among women, while men resort to the help of plastic surgeon on much fewer occasions.

The tendency is the same around the world, as women are pushing for plastic surgery to satisfy their desire to be more attractive. For this purpose, women are much more willing to sacrifice.

The most popular types of plastic surgery around the world are breast augmentation and liposuction, followed by the abdominal surgery, blepharoplasty, and rhinoplasty.

The price for plastic surgery varies around the world. The average procedure will cost over $6,000 in the U.S. and in Brazil, where some of the world’s best plastic surgeons practice, it could set customers back about $2,000. Italy is the most well known location for plastic surgery in Europe. Plastic surgery is also well-developed in China.

Despite the fact that the number of such clinics continues to grow in Azerbaijan and that new technologies are now allowing surgeons to achieve fabulous results, people should always remember the risks. Not all plastic surgeries provide the desired results.

Possible complications for any surgical procedure include complications from anesthesia, including pneumonia, blood clots and, rarely, death, infections at the incision site, which may worsen scarring and require additional surgery, fluid build up under the skin, excessive bleeding, obvious scarring or skin breakdown, or numbness and tingling from nerve damage, which may be permanent.

Thus, before agreeing to the surgery, one should be aware of the state of his or her own health, the necessity of the procedure, and the competence of the surgeon.
