Novruz holiday celebrated at UNESCO headquarters

Novruz holiday was celebrated at UNESCO headquarters on the
initiative of the permanent representations of Azerbaijan,
Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, India, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Pakistan,
Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Head of Iranian permanent representation to UNESCO Ahmad Jalali
spoke of the Novruz holiday. He said Novruz was an ancestral
festivity marking the first day of spring and the renewal of
nature.
Mr. Jalali noted Novruz was officially registered on the UNESCO
List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova congratulated the attendees
on the occasion, and noted Novruz called the people to unity,
friendship and peace.
The attendees, then, heard performances of Indian musicians and
tasted cuisines of countries, which celebrate Novruz.
