Azerbaijan, Qatar to co-op in ICT

Azerbaijan and Qatar signed an agreement on further cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies.

The agreement was signed on December 8 during the World Exhibition and Conference "ITU Telecom World-2014" which is underway in Doha, Qatar, on December 7-10.

Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov and Minister of Information and Communication Technologies of Qatar Hessa Al Jaber signed the agreement on behalf of their countries.

The memorandum envisages further cooperation between Azerbaijan and Qatar in the fields of telecommunication and support for IT-entrepreneurship, start-up projects.

Nanotechnology is considered as one of the main priorities of cooperation between the two countries.

"ITU Telecom World-2014" is hosting industry leaders, who will examine three main scenarios, namely the disruption of the activity, partnership between industries and intellectual future.

Meanwhile, a one-day summit of leaders dedicated to the problems of the future, which was held under the guidance of renowned futurologists, opened the "ITU Telecom World-2014" exhibition-conference.

The technologies and investment opportunities of its participants are put on display in national and thematic pavilions of the exhibition, as well as on industrial stands.

Azerbaijan is presented at the exhibition by a delegation led by Minister Abbasov. The minister made speeches at several events held as part of the exhibition.

Along with the employees of the Ministry, the delegation includes representatives from IT companies operating in the country, as well as non-governmental organizations.

About 40 local companies are participating at the exhibition, where Azerbaijan is represented by a special stand.

The main objectives of the work of Azerbaijan’s national pavilion are to inform the participants and visitors about Azerbaijan’s economy, to present the latest technological solutions in the telecommunications and high technologies.

ITU, the Emirate of Qatar and heads of various countries visited the Azerbaijani stand.

Azerbaijani delegation will hold bilateral meetings with the heads of relevant agencies from different countries and participate in sessions to be held within the framework of the event.
