Baku 2015 European Games Closing Ceremony to be spectacular finale

Baku 2015 Closing Ceremony will be a spectacular show for the attendees and the millions of viewers worldwide, bringing to an end the 17 days of thrilling competition seen by hundreds of thousands of spectators.

“It will also be a recognition of the efforts of the 12,500 Flamekeepers, who have shown great friendliness and offered a traditional warm Azerbaijani welcome to the thousands of visitors to Baku throughout the first ever European Games,” the article said.

The first European Games will go down in sporting history, the article said citing Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov.

“I am very proud of what has been achieved in Baku and the positive feedback we have been getting in terms of the setting, organisation, hospitality and action. It has been a success for Azerbaijan, and will be a launching pad for future sporting events we will host,” Rahimov said.

Artistic Director of the Closing Ceremony James Hadley said that his appointment to create the Baku 2015 Closing Ceremony was an honour.

“It’s been an exciting experience and has never been done before. The team I have worked with is fantastic and I couldn’t be happier with the talent we have pulled together. We’re looking to blend the old and the new and find the perfect fusion between the two,” he said.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.

The Closing Ceremony will be held on June 28 in Olympic Stadium with a gross capacity of over 68,000.
