Muslim countries may unite around Russia, expert says

By Trend
Russia has recently demonstrated a clear position over the settlement of the crises in Syria and Iraq, preventing the partition of these countries, Gungor Gokdag, expert and columnist for the Turkish newspaper ZedLife, told Trend on December 11.
Gokdag said that Muslim countries may unite around Russia due to this fact and Moscow’s clear position over the status of Jerusalem.
He said that by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, US President Donald Trump actually gave "keys" of the Middle East to Israel, which caused a strong irritation of Muslim countries.
"If the Muslim countries do not take real steps for the US to withdraw its decision concerning Jerusalem, this may lead to serious consequences in the region," he said.
Previously, US President Donald Trump proclaimed that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Israel proclaimed Jerusalem its capital after the end of the War of Independence in 1949. In 1967, after the Six Days War, it seized East Jerusalem and united it with the West Jerusalem, but the UN did not recognize this. Embassies of countries that have diplomatic relations with Israel are located mainly in Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Ramat Gan.
