NATO is ready to support Georgia in the implementation of the ambitious reforms,Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen wrote in his Facebook page.

He thanked the Georgian side for participation in the peacekeeping operation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan and for its willingness to engage in the operation "Decisive support".

"Georgia's desire to participate in the most important NATO missions should be positively assessed," he wrote. "Furthermore, it should be noted the holding of elections in Georgia in a free and peaceful environment, which is another step on the path of democratic development. Countries wishing to become members of NATO will be considered individually. In a report on Georgia, we will note the progress made by the country over the past years."

Georgia is actively preparing for the NATO Wales summit on September 4-5, 2014 and intends to get a NATO Membership Action Plan.

Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze earlier noted that NATO Secretary General agrees that Georgia's progress must be adequately assessed.
