Russian ex-defense minister questioned in fraud case
Former Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov arrived on
Friday morning for questioning over the "case of Oboronservice ", a
fraud case involving state property, a spokesman for Russia's
Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin told RIA Novosti, Trend
news agency reported.
Information on questioning of Serdyukov was released on
Thursday.
Currently, the fraud case involving property of the Defense Ministry is under investigation.
Five criminal cases were initiated on facts of fraud in real estate transactions, land and shares owned by the Oboronservice. Suspected loss to the state was estimated at $3 billion. Currently, it is over $4 billion.
Yevgeniya Vasilyeva, the former head of the Defense Ministry's Property Relations Department, has been charged with fraud and embezzlement in the case. Alongside, the court arrested former head of the Expert Legal Support Center Yekaterina Smetanova and her husband Maxim Zakutaylo, the former general director of an air force warehouse in the Moscow district.
Investigation elicited the fact of plunder of 53 million rubles. These means were stolen at implementation of two state contracts on rendering of services in maintenance of military camps of the Ministry of Defence. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, contracts on rendering of services in maintenance and the sanitary content of objects of barracks housing stock with the ministry for the sum of 63 million rubles were signed by JSC Slavyanka.
As reported, on this case the director general and the assistant director of "A safe network" A.Elkin and Y.Rotanova were detained.
