WTO warns of sharp slowdown in global goods trade for late 2025
The slowdown follows a stronger-than-expected first half of the year, when merchandise trade expanded by 4.9%, driven largely by import frontloading ahead of anticipated tariff increases. The WTO notes that these early gains are unlikely to be sustained, as elevated tariffs and rising policy uncertainty continue to dampen global demand.
