Turkmenistan offers Estonia to prepare new draft trade, economic agreement

Turkmen-Estonian political consultations were held in Ashgabat, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

At the talks, the Turkmen side proposed to consider the possibility of preparing a new draft agreement on trade and economic cooperation, the report said.

Lembit Uibo, director general of the Political Department of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, who led the Estonian delegation, proposed cooperation in the field of agriculture, implementation of e-government and the digital economy. The parties also noted the importance of intensifying contacts at the highest state level.

The two countries have identified the sectors of transport and telecommunications, trade, science and technologies as promising areas of partnership.

In particular, Estonia has expressed readiness to cooperate with Turkmenistan in the spheres of modern manufacturing, shipbuilding and maritime transport, as well as information and communication technologies.

Moreover, Estonia, which has the largest cargo and passenger ports of international importance, including Tallinn and Sillamae ports, has expressed willingness to cooperate with State Service of Maritime and River Transportation of Turkmenistan.

Earlier, Estonian Reval Shipbuilding OU shipbuilding company built a tanker in Turkmenistan for the transportation of oil and oil products. The transaction cost totaled $10.8 million.

Turkmenistan is interested in attracting investments, development of the rail, road, sea and air transport systems, logistics, tourism, as well as getting access to the Estonian market, where Turkmen producers could sell refining and petrochemical products, as well as other competitive goods.
