The Turkmen Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with Christian
Berger, the head of the EU delegation to Turkmenistan (with
residence in Ankara), Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen
Foreign Ministry.
The parties discussed issues related to the opening of the EU
office in Turkmenistan in the near future, the report said. At the
meeting, the sides highlighted the positive development of
cooperation in the political, trade, economic and humanitarian
fields.
EU technical assistance projects are being implemented in
Turkmenistan, in particular, the effectiveness of Erasmus Mundus
(programme funded by the European Commission, aims are to encourage
mobility (long-term and short-term) of students and staff), a
student exchange program, was mentioned.
Besides, the EU and Turkmenistan are committed to implementing a
project designed to bring Turkmen hydrocarbon energy carriers to
European markets. The negotiations have been underway since
2011.
The project of laying a 300-kilometer gas pipeline along the
bottom of the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan is optimal
for the delivery of Turkmen gas to the European market. Further,
the Turkmen gas can be delivered to Turkey, which borders with
European countries.
