Azerenergy OJSC continues to work in accordance with the “Rehabilitation Action Plan prepared to eliminate the critical situation in the power system of Azerbaijan,” Trend reports with reference to the company on January 7.

This work is carried out in stages in the framework of the rehabilitation program, which covers the period of 2018-2020.

Azerbaijan’s Mingachevir TPP is the largest thermal power plant in the South Caucasus and consists of eight power units.

As part of the reconstruction, the units and equipment, service life of which has expired, have been replaced, the station and substations have been completely rebuilt.

Instead of 145 days overhaul of the sixth power unit and replacement of substation equipment, the work was completed in 80 days. The sixth power unit is already connected to full capacity, a backup power source has also been created, as well as other devices have been updated. A full reconstruction of the remaining seven power units of TPP will be carried out this year.

At the same time, spare parts were delivered to Shamkir HPP, which until recently did not operate at full capacity, and on November 26-27 December, repair and restoration work was carried out at the second hydraulic unit, as a result of which the capacity of the unit doubled. Reconstruction work at the Shamkir hydroelectric station continues.

On July 3, 2018, an accident occurred at a transformer of one of the substations located at the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant LLC located in Mingachevir city. As a result of the accident, there were interruptions in the provision of electricity in 39 cities and districts of the republic, including Baku and Ganja.

President Ilham Aliyev signed on October 30 a decree "On the implementation of measures aimed at improving the infrastructure of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant", according to which AzerEnergy OJSC will receive 48 million manats from the state budget.

The funds will be directed to overhaul and installation work at the Azerbaijan TPP and its substations, as well as the purchase of necessary equipment. This amount was allocated within the framework of the first stage of financing the specified works. The funds received from the reserve fund of the Azerbaijan’s President in the state budget of 2018 will be taken into account in the share capital of AzerEnergy.
