Saudi National Day commemorated in Baku

The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Azerbaijan has arranged an official reception on the occasion of the Saudi National Day.

Officials of state and government, MPs, representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Baku, and public representatives joined the celebration which was held on September 29.

Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Musaid bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Salim made a speech at the event, informing the guests about the developing history of the country.

The ambassador noted fraternal relations combined Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, adding these bonds based on mutual respect, common history and sincerity.

Abdullah Al-Salim highlighted the role of national leader Heydar Aliyev in establishing these ties. "King of Saudi Arabia Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev have great services in development of bilateral relations," he added.

The diplomat said efforts to strengthen relations between the two fraternal countries and nation would continue.

Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev, for his part, congratulated the people of Saudi Arabia and wished peace and tranquility.

He highlighted successfully developing relations between the two countries in politics, economy, and culture.

On close cooperation within the international organizations, the minister said reciprocal visits of officials of both countries stood on the base of these successful relations.

He noted President Aliyev`s visit to Saudi Arabia this April, as well as the activity of Joint Commission on Cooperation between the Governments of the two countries gave contributions to boosting ties.

The first session of the intergovernmental commission between the two sides was held in 2001 in Baku.

The Kingdom was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan in 1991.The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Riyadh was opened in 1994, and since 1999, the embassy of Saudi Arabia has been operating in Baku.

Over the past years, the economic relations with the increased interest in investment strengthened and expanded. Currently, four companies of Saudi Arabia operate in various fields in Azerbaijan. A "Memorandum of understanding" for the implementation of long-term project in the Kingdom in the field of oil and gas between the Azerbaijan State Oil Company and the Saudi company «Soroof International» was signed in Baku in 2012.
