Azerbaijani pilots make debut on F-16

Pilots of Azerbaijani Air Force for the first time flew the F-16 two-seat training-fighter jets jointly with Turkish pilots on September 24.

The flights were conducted as part of ongoing joint military and tactical drills, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry reported.

The overall readiness of aviation equipment and the pilots' skills in operating the aircraft of this type were checked during the drills.

Azerbaijan-Turkey joint exercises aim to carry out the task of planning joint activities of air forces of two countries, explore the possibilities of joint action and coordination to conduct combat operations and destruction of ground targets with air strikes, in particular.

Over 30 jets of Azerbaijan and Turkey, in particular, the fighters "MIG-24", "F-16" military transport aircraft ""Su-25", "C-130 Herkules", helicopter gunships "Mi-24", "AH-1W Super Cobra" and military transport helicopter "Mi-17" and "Sikorski UH-60" are involved in the large-scale drills.

The joint drills of the Azerbaijani and Turkish air forces will continue till October 3.
