Access to the e-government portal in Azerbaijan has been simplified, the communications ministry said last week.

The issuance of verification data to citizens for electronic access to the portal is an innovation. A login and a password in electronic form can be received following registration on the portal, a measure that will further expand access to the portal.

Previously, this data could be obtained through the post offices and branches of the postal operator Azerpost.

At present, access to the portal is available through an electronic digital signature (EDS) as well as identity data of private entrepreneurs and other citizens.

According to the ministry, over 150 electronic services of 38 government agencies are included in the e-government portal.

Since the commissioning of a center that issues EDS, 28 entities were granted 2,583 EDS, while businesses and private individuals were issued 794 electronic digital signatures.

The e-government portal is a key tool that supports the work with citizens and the agencies of both the public and private sectors of the economy.

The portal provides a reduction in the number of documents citizens are required to submit as different agencies will communicate electronically.

A presentation of electronic signature cards to leading mass media executives was held last Friday.

Aflatun Amashov, head of the media watchdog Press Council, provided information on the features of EDS, saying this service is of particular importance in terms of improving efficiency, saving time and other benefits for citizens and media representatives.

Deputy Communications and Information Technologies Minister Elmir Valizade in his speech said the EDS service is paid, but the price is not high.

Valizade said an electronic signature is identical to the signature on the original document and provides for the authentication of the person signing an electronic document.
