Azerbaijan's ICT success shown at ITU exhibition

Azerbaijan's achievements in the field of ICT are demonstrated at ITU Telecom World 2013 exhibition and conference.

The exhibition is held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 19-22.

The event of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations' specialized agency for ICT, has gathered top-level participants from around the world and across all the branches of the ICT industry.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Toure and ICT Minister of Thailand Anudith Nakornthap highlighted the importance of the event.

The central focus of the conversations and activities at ITU Telecom World 2013 is "Embracing Change in a digital world", a focus very much in evidence throughout the event.

At the conference dedicated to global telecommunications and information technologies, Azerbaijan is represented by a delegation led by ICT Minister Ali Abbasov.

Over 20 IT companies from Azerbaijan, including private, public and nongovernmental organizations, are attending the event.

Large-scale projects implemented in the country, including projects Azerspace, Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM), E-government solutions, Dilmanc, nanotechnology services, digital TV services, 3G and 4G mobile technologies, as well as the latest scientific achievements in the field of science and technology in Azerbaijan are demonstrated in the 156-square meter area allocated for the national pavilion.

Evening of Azerbaijan and presentations of projects of international importance implemented on Azerbaijan's initiative will also be organized.

As part of the event, bilateral meetings will be held with the heads of leading IT corporations and company leaders, and also communications regulators from different countries.

2013 was declared the Year of ICT in Azerbaijan and the ICT University was established under a presidential order.

Some 142.6 million manats ($182 million) were invested in Azerbaijan's ICT and postal communication sectors in the first nine months of 2013.

ITU Telecom World is the platform for high-level debate, knowledge-sharing and networking for the global ICT community - essential to drive industry success and address critical socio-economic challenges.

National Pavilions and industry stands from companies and countries across the world showcase the latest technologies and developments and highlight key investment opportunities.
