Azerbaijan, Dagestan plan to create joint tourist routes

Azerbaijan and Dagestan plan to open a joint land and sea tourist routes, the National Bureau of Tourism Promotion of Azerbaijan (NBTP) reported on April 10.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between NBTP Head Fuad Nagiyev and Minister of Tourism and Folk Crafts of Dagestan Rabiyyat Zakavov, Trend reported.

Prospects for cooperation between the two agencies with a view to developi the tourist potential of neighboring regions and the aspects of attracting investments in this sector were discussed. Opportunities and conditions for expanding international tourism were examined as well.

The National Bureau of Tourism Promotion was established in February 2017 under the Culture and Tourism Ministry with a view to form the international image of Azerbaijan, coordinate marketing work, promote the growth of the country’s tourism potential and ensure its recognition at the international level.

Located in the North Caucasus region, Dagestan enjoys very ancient friendly and neighboring relations with Azerbaijan. Its capital and largest city Makhachkala, located at the center of Dagestan on the Caspian Sea.

Dagestan's ancient city of Derbent densely populated by Azerbaijanis serves as a friendly bridge between the two nations.

Earlier Dagestan's authorities announced that they will develop a road map to remove obstacles on the way of tourists. Furthermore, Dagestan plans to carry out flights from Makhachkala to Baku and launch an express train through the Derbent - Baku route.
