Azerbaijani grandmasters will vie for medals at the European Individual Chess Championship to be held in Minsk from May 29 to June 11.

The national team includes Arkadij Naiditsch, Rauf Mammadov, Eltaj Safarli, Gadir Hüseynov and Nijat Abbasov.

The tournament will bring together more than 150 chess players, Azertac reported.

The Swiss system tournament will feature 11 rounds, with the time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

Those who will take 1-22 places have the right to participate in the Chess World Cup in Georgia.

The European Individual Chess Championship is a chess tournament organised by the European Chess Union. Since its establishment in 2000, it has taken place on a yearly basis. Apart from determining the European champions (absolute and women's), another object of this tournament is to determine a number of players who qualify for the FIDE World Cup and the knockout Women's World Championship.
