Iran's Khamenei: High election turnout opposite of enemies’ plots

Leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has said that what happened on the day of the presidential elections was exactly the opposite of what the country's enemies had been planning.

Ayatollah Khamenei said on June 26 that the enemies tried to undermine the elections by massively plotting, spending large sums of money and increasing pressure on the country during the one year ahead of the vote, IRIB reported.

Ayatollah Khamenei also appreciated the Iranian nation's high turnout in the June 14 elections.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran's latest polls indicated that even those who don't support the establishment trust it.

In the run-up to the June 14 presidential election, Ayatollah Khamenei called on those individuals who are not supportive of the Islamic establishment to support their country by casting their ballots. More than 72 per cent of eligible voters turned out in the presidential polls. Reformist candidate Hassan Rohani was officially named as Iran's next president with 50.7 per cent of the votes.
