President opens sport facilities in Baku

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee, Mehriban Aliyeva and his daughter Arzu Aliyeva attended the opening of the European Games Park on May 13.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Azad Rahimov explained that the European Games Park will host water polo, beach volleyball, beach soccer and basketball competitions at the Baku 2015 European Games. The park consists of three sports facilities and four functional zones.

The inaugural European games Baku 2015 will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, 16 of which are Olympic.

President Aliyev and his wife inspected the work carried out in the park.

Then, the head of state and his wife viewed the taxies that will serve all official and technical staff from European countries during the Games.

Following, the presidential couple attended the opening of the Bike Park.

The Bike Park occupies a total area of 30 hectares. The BMX bike park was also constructed in the area of the Park. A platform for competition with obstacles was also built here.

All created conditions fully meet the standards of the International Cycling Union. The park offers 1,197 seats for its spectators.

There are also special places for VIPs, athletes, disabled spectators, and media representatives. The two-storey office building, which was built in the territory of the Bike Park, has a registration center, rooms for the analysis of doping, a 25-seat conference hall, and other auxiliary rooms.

The head of state then met with members of the Synergy Baku Cycling Project team.

The Baku 2015 will include a Mountain Bike competition featuring 75 athletes - both men and women in a single day of competition.

The BMX competition will take place over three days attracting 48 athletes.
