OIC adopts plan of action for co-op

Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) member states adopted a plan of action for cooperation in different fields of labor, employment and social protection following a meeting in Baku on June 17-18.
The two-day meeting of the OIC Steering Committee for the implementation of the framework document for Labor, Employment and Social Protection brought together officials of state agencies from nine members-countries of the committee, including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Indonesia, Guinea, Cameroon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya and Malaysia, as well as representatives of the OIC Secretariat, its subordinate organizations and International Labor Organization (ILO).
A draft action plan prepared for the implementation of a framework document - adopted at the meeting - reflects directions for technical cooperation on safety issues among the OIC member countries for 2014-2016, coordination of organizational works on collection of statistical information on labor markets (2014-2015) and creation of a common information base on migrant workers (2014-2016).
The Plan also envisages cooperation on protection of worker's rights and legislation on the labor market (2014-2015), creation of a center of vocational training and OIC labor market.
The document also includes the use of a social insurance system in case of occupational injuries, as well as issues like the approach to the problems of labor and employment based on Islamic principles. Sponsors have also been identified to address these issues during the meeting.
The Malaysian side presented the network of civil service employment at the meeting.
The next meeting of the OIC labor ministers will be held in Indonesia in 2015. Azerbaijan's Labor and Social Protection of Population Ministry will chair OIC Steering Committee for the implementation of the framework document for Labor, Employment and Social Protection until 2015.
