The Azerbaijani and Iranian parliamentarians discussed prospects of bilateral relations in Baku on September 24, the Azerbaijani Parliament's website reported.

Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov received the Iranian delegation, which included members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (parliament) of Iran.

The meeting centered on an extensive exchange of ideas on prospects of further development of inter-parliamentary ties, ways of settling local conflicts and other issues of common interest.

Asadov said Azerbaijan is interested in developing ties with Iran in various fields.

He noted the importance of friendship groups in the development of inter-parliamentary relations and significance of the systematic conduct of such meetings.

"To date, our countries have signed over 100 documents that create favorable grounds for the development of ties not only in political, but also in economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres," Asadov said.

Member of the Azerbaijan-Iran inter-parliamentary friendship group Eldar Ibrahimov noted the high level of cooperation, especially the inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Iran.

In turn, the member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iranian parliament Javad Jahangirzadeh said the expansion of cooperation between the legislative bodies contributes to the development of relations in other spheres.

The visit of the Iranian MPs to Azerbaijan will wrap up on September 25, then the delegation will head to Georgia.
