Russia’s Caspian Flotilla to visit Baku

A detachment of ships of the Russian Navy's Caspian Flotilla led by the Dagestan missile ship will enter the Baku port from August 12 to August 13, a report posted on the website of Russian embassy in Azerbaijan said.

The goal of the visit is to develop and strengthen friendly relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

During the trip the ship crews are scheduled to hold meetings with Azerbaijani Navy's command and visit sightseeings of Azerbaijan's capital Baku.

Furthermore, Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Azerbaijan on August 13.

The Caspian Flotilla - a sea component of the Southern Military District - is based in Astrakhan and secures national and state interests of Russia in the Caspian Sea region. It conducts anti-terrorist activities, is involved in protection of trade, protection of state interests in the areas of oil deposits.

Today the Fleet consists of several ship brigades and divisions, units of coastal troops. It was awarded the Order of the Red Banner in 1945.
