The House of Representatives of the U.S Texas State has adopted a resolution regarding the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), May 28.

ADR existed till 1920, the Bolshevik revolution and the republic re-established its independence in 1991, the resolution says.

Furthermore, the resolution mentions that Azerbaijan, located in an important and complex region from a geo-strategic point of view, is a close ally of the U.S in the region, in particular in the combat against terrorism. Azerbaijan contributes to the ensuring of world energy security.

Azerbaijan, the population of which generally consists of Muslims, is a secular democratic state and the Christian and Jewish communities don't face any preconceived relations in the country, the resolution says.

The House of Representatives of Texas welcomes the existing relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S.

Azerbaijani embassy to the U.S told Trend on Tuesday that member of the House of Representatives of Texas, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa has made a statement regarding the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the ADR.

The congressman mentioned that Azerbaijan established the first democratic and secular republic in the Muslim world.

Furthermore, Hinojosa underlined that Azerbaijan and the U.S has developed strong ties and Azerbaijan provides multilateral support to the U.S in the implementation of international peacemaking operations, in particular in Afghanistan. Hinojosa highly appreciates Azerbaijan's role in the maintenance of global energy security.

California Governor Jerry Brown also has congratulated the Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani community in the western US state on the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the ADR.

In his letter sent to the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Los Angeles, Brown notes that Azerbaijan has a rich history and "the Azerbaijani people in California and throughout the globe take pride in their culture and heritage."

"Republic Day is a time to celebrate and link to your ancestral homeland. Today's celebration honors and preserves traditions that have contributed to California's culture and diversity," the letter said.

Brown concludes his congratulatory message by wishing the people of Azerbaijan and of Azerbaijani descent a happy Republic Day on behalf of the state of California.

On May 28, 1918, the first democratic republic in the Muslim world was established, which marked a glorious page in Azerbaijan's history. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic embraced European democratic values and the abundant cultural heritage of the East. All citizens of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic -- regardless of their ethnic and religious affiliation -- were granted the right to vote. Thus, women gained suffrage for the first time in the Islamic world.
