Internet TV introduced in Azerbaijan

By Vusala Abbasova

What do we usually do upon arriving at home after long, dull workday? How did we used to spend our free time?

Modern life offers a wide range of alternatives to pass the time, like watching TV or browsing the internet. But, what about watching TV through the internet?

Currently, innovations in technologies have entered a new stage by joining these two services, offering more capabilities for users.

There is no need to install a satellite dish, lay cable TV, swirl holes in the walls or install expensive equipment. All that you will need is connection to the internet and then you can easily watch TV online.

This week, Azerbaijan will introduce the new OTT (Over-The-Top) service for in-country users.

The platform will work on HTML5, according to remarks made by the A+A Group of Companies to Trend.

The OTT platform will provide users with more than 50 popular TV channels to watch live, including the channels in Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish, and other languages.

Furthermore, the service is available on any smart device such as a computer, Smart TV, or a smartphone or tablet, like the iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Since HTML5 doesn't need an Adobe Flash license, users will be able to view video through Smart TV browsers, the A+A Group of Companies announced.

The novelties of the platform include an increased of the number of television programs, the use of TV guide (EPG) electronic options, the ability to record and playback TV programs, create personal channel on Youtube, and so on.

Currently, the service has been launched in Sumgait and will be available in Baku this autumn.

The service costs seven manat (over $6) a month via online or through payment terminals.

Payment notifications will be sent to subscribers automatically.

Internet TV makes it easier to view programs on any device, from TVs to smartphones, and it gives you more freedom to watch the stuff you want to watch.

More than three million people in Azerbaijan use the internet occasionally, which creates opportunities to develop online TV in the country.
