Baku’s preparation to the inaugural European Games has entered its final straight as athletes from around Europe have started to gather in the Azerbaijani capital 9 days before the opening ceremony.
Baku 2015 European Games is the first Games of the continent. It will open a new page in European sports history. The Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to show their abilities in 20 sports.
The Baku European Games Operation Committee reported that athletes from a number of countries have already arrived in Baku.
Athletes from Germany and Ireland have already been housed in the Athletes Village near the National Stadium.
In addition, a sports delegation from Israel has also arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the Games.
The Athletes Village includes 13 apartment blocks and an administrative building. Some 7,499 people can be accommodated in the 1,042 apartments here.
The Village will provide athletes and team officials with a residential environment that is secure, comfortable, friendly and stress-free - a "home away from home". The complex will enable residents to focus on the competitions ahead, and to enjoy their Games experience.
Moreover, a group of foreign journalists who will cover the upcoming Games has also arrived in Baku.
BEGOC organized a special day and night staff at the Heydar Aliyev Airport, to welcome guests of the historic event.
The Games are expected to gather some of Europe's best athletes as 16 of its 20 sports will be Olympic; additionally 12 of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Athletes will certainly put their best foot forward as they will attempt to make their mark on this historical event. For those unable to attend in person, the Games will be transmitted live on TV.
