An attempt to hang the flag of the unrecognized "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" at the stand of the Armenian cultural center within the "Bridge of Culture 2013" international festival, held at the Eotvos Lorand University in Hungary last week, was prevented, the Azerbaijani embassy in Hungary told Trend news agency.

The embassy staff and Azerbaijani students receiving education in Hungary immediately protested and urged the organizers of the event to prevent such incidents.

The embassy issued a protest note to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry and talks were held with the administration of the Eotvos Lorand University.

As a result, the attempt to display the flag of the unrecognized republic was prevented and the Armenians engaged in the provocation were excluded from participation in the mentioned event.

This was not the first attempt of Armenian provocateurs to present the Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh, invaded by the Armenians in the early 1990s, as an Armenian territory. However, every time Azerbaijani diplomats and citizens who participated in those festivals thwarted the Armenian provocations.

The main purpose of the festival in Hungary, organized with the support of the embassies and national communities, was to demonstrate and promote the culture, national cuisine and tourism potential of various nations.

The Azerbaijan-Hungary Youth Union represented Azerbaijan with the support of the country's embassy in Hungary.

The festival participants took great interest in 30 books on the culture, history and literature of Azerbaijan, which have been published in the Hungarian language in different years.

Besides Azerbaijan, representatives of the U.S., Malaysia, China, Israel, Austria, Italy, France and other countries attended the event.
