President Ilham Aliyev has praised political and economic ties with Poland, saying that the cooperation between the two countries has strategic importance. The president made the remarks while receiving newly-appointed Polish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Rafal Poborski on March 2.

Addressing the ambassador, Aliyev said that “the ties between our countries are developing and we have been able to establish very strong political ties.”

“Poland is a very important partner and friendly country for us. Friendly ties between our countries have developed over the years. We have had many contacts over the past years. I am glad that we are now seeing progress not only in the political sphere, but also in the economic sphere. As you know, our regional trade office for Central Europe is located in Poland. This fact shows that we consider your country as our main trading partner in this region. I am convinced that our relations will develop in the upcoming years. Together with President Duda, we discussed our future plans in January this year. I wish you success,” Aliyev said.

The president reminded that he met Polish counterpart President Duda during the Davos Forum in January where “we once again confirmed the strategic importance of our partnership.”

For his part, Ambassador Rafal Poborksi said that both Azerbaijan and Poland are important countries in their regions.

“We are in a very good position to take advantage of transportation connections. We are very pleased to see the progress in your energy policy. I know that our companies are holding a dialogue on this. We hope that this will result in successful projects and benefit both parties.”

The ambassador expressed hopes that Baku and Warsaw will launch direct launch very soon and the ties will further be enhanced.
