Young Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed will hold his solo exhibition "Fluid Forms" in Dubai.

Faig Ahmed is a visual artist who makes different compositions of traditional Azerbaijan's carpet by disjointing its structure and placing its canonic elements into an open space.

The art of carpet weaving is one of the ancient industries in Azerbaijan that has made it famous for centuries.

The traditional image of national carpet is in the heart of each Azerbaijani citizen. Going beyond the current borders, carpet weaving art has been a big challenge for those involved in the industry. Today, a young artist has decided to break the rules. The results are wonderful.

The exhibition will be held at the Cuadro Gallery from September 16 to November 30. Founded in 2008 in the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), Cuadro Fine Art Gallery has quickly become one of the UAE's premier contemporary and modern art venues.

At the upcoming exhibition, Ahmed will unveil new works created during his residency with Cuadro Gallery earlier this year.

Ahmed's works include hand-woven rugs encompassed in sculptural arms that extend out of thread into neon geometric forms. The artist's signature optical illusions stretch beyond the carpet frame - a conventional rug dissembles midway, bleeding onto the floor in a meticulously woven pool of melting threads.

Ahmed, 31, sculptor by occupation, is working with various medium, including painting and video to give a new image to the ancient carpets.

At present, he is studying the artistic qualities of Azerbaijani traditional rugs. He seeks to combine tradition with contemporary art, which is a novelty not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the world.

The artist has held exhibitions in famous centers like Venice Biennale, Moscow National Center of Contemporary Art, Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau in Dresden.

At present, Ahmed is a nominee for the Victoria and Albert Museums 3rd 'Jameel Prize'. The winner of the prize will be announced at the end of 2014.
