Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency will be issuing special cards for producers and exporters of food products starting from July 1, Head of Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency Goshkar Tahmazli told reporters in Baku May 18.

“The agency will monitor the export and import of food products in Azerbaijan starting from July 1,” he said. “The agency will be engaged in issuing the necessary certificates. Entrepreneurs will have to register in the centers of ASAN service, a state agency for government services to citizens of Azerbaijan, on a “single window” principle and their products will be included in our register. Every registered entrepreneur will receive a special identification card.”

Tahmazli noted that proposals on the volume of state duties necessary for obtaining certificates were sent to the Tariff Council of Azerbaijan, adding that the fees will be paid in the centers of the ASAN service.

The Food Safety Agency was established by a decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated February 10, 2017 on additional measures to improve the food security in the country.

Under the decree, the Food Safety Agency will help ensure the regulatory framework of food safety (development and approval of sanitary norms and rules, as well as hygienic standards), and will carry out risk analysis, hygiene certification, as well as provide a quality certificate for food products exported to foreign countries, ensure state control over the protection of the rights of consumers of food products at all stages of food production based on the "from field to table" principle.
