Azercosmos  makes $50 million income from Azerspace-1

Azercosmos Company, the only satellite operator in the Caucasus, has revealed the revenue volume from the country’s first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1.

The company’s income exceeded $50 million since the launch of Azerspace-1 into orbit. To date, 78 percent of Azerspace-1 resources are commercialized, and annual sales growth of the satellite resources is projected, Azerkosmos told Trend on February 8.

The satellite was set at the orbital position of 46 degrees East longitude on February 8, 2013. Currently, service area of Azerspace-1 includes several countries in Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.

“Four years have passed since the launch of Azerbaijan’s first telecommunications satellite into orbit,” Azercosmos said, adding that during these years, Azerspace-1 was able to attract potential customers and make its orbital position recognizable.

The company mentioned that the satellite will begin to recoup the investment after eight years of operation in orbit.

Currently, Azercosmos provides services to broadcasters, government agencies, and telecommunications companies of 19 countries, namely Malaysia, Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Egypt, Georgia, UAE, Turkey, Lebanon, Cameroon, Great Britain, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Estonia, Belarus, etc. Since 2014, all Azerbaijani TV and radio channels began broadcasting via Azerspace-1 satellite.

Currently, Azerspace-1 broadcasts 30 television and 17 radio channels.

The launch of the second telecommunications satellite Azerspace-2 is scheduled for this year. It will be placed at orbital position of 45 degrees East longitude.

The service area of Azerspace-2 will cover the countries of Europe, Central and South-East Asia, Middle East and Africa. The new satellite will further ensure the sustainability of the work, and will expand coverage of services.
