Azerbaijan ready to ensure Armenian athletes' security in European Olympics

Azerbaijan is ready to afford Armenia an opportunity to participate in the European Olympics, Vice-President of Azerbaijan's National Olympic Committee, Chingiz Huseynzade told journalists on Tuesday, Trend news agency reported.

Armenia refused to vote when a decision was taken by the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee to hold the first-ever European Games in Baku.

"We are ready to provide security assurances to all participants of the Olympics, including Armenian athletes," Huseynzade said.

According to Huseynzade, Armenians will participate in the Olympics.

"There is no problem from our side," he said.

The 41st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee, held in Rome on Saturday, decided to host the first-ever European Olympic Games in Baku.

The Games will be held in 2015.

The decision was made as a result of the secret balloting, where of 48 votes, 38 came in favor. Eight votes came against, and two more restrained from voting.
